General summary
Plans and directs geological and geophysical activities related to exploration for reserves replacement programmes. Recommends regional geological studies, geological and geophysical reconnaissance surveys and exploratory drilling programmes in conformity with the Company’s long range plan. Directs and supervises geological & geophysical assessment
Main responsibilities
- Coordinates with other Divisions in the department in executing and evaluating exploration and reserves replacement programmes for the Company. Reviews and recommends regional prospecting and reserves replacement programmes in conformity with the Company’s long range plan and within approved budgets to meet established corporate reserves replacement targets.
- Directs and supervises all geological and geophysical (G&G) studies and operations for exploration. Ensures that the works meet the requirement of Company’s exploration programmes, schedules, and safety standards.
- Reviews and endorses G&G exploration study reports and analyses. Reviews and endorses maintenance of regional geo-science database, G&G exploratory software and modern computer system.
- Prepares work plan and controls budgets for his Division. Initiates and processes tenders/contracts required for exploration and prospecting activities. Checks invoices from contractors, and endorsement requisition. Ensures that all resources are properly utilized in a cost effective manner and the services provided by contractors meet qualification requirements.
- Maintains knowledge and skills of the latest technologies and methods, and recommends their application introduction for exploration programmes. Reviews and endorses various exploration activity and study ports prepared by his subordinates and contractors. Integrates and compiles exploration activity plans and ports for submission to Management, Host Governments, and other outside organisations. Proposes the company’s exploration strategy. Represents the Company in discussing or negotiating with Host Governments and other outside firms on exploration related issues.
Independence of operation
Determines own work methods in accordance with established policies, plans, and professional standards. Completed work is subject to review with the Manager.

Minimum requirements
- B.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics or equivalent.
- 12 years experience in geological and geophysical (G&G) operations and reservoir characterization for exploration and development (E&D) in the oil industry.
- Very good knowledge of English.
- Knowledge of PC operations.
The post holder may be required to undertake additional duties, which may be reasonably expected and forms part of the function of the post.
